Install Day Insider: Your Guide to a Smooth Interior Design Setup
Have you ever thought about the real work behind those polished interior photos? The process from the initial concept to the final installation is more complex than it appears. In my experience, it's not just about creativity but also intense coordination and a keen eye for detail. When a project reaches its photography stage, it looks effortless, but that's far from the whole story. The success of an installation day heavily relies on detailed planning and preparation. In this guide, I'll share some essential insights into making a project come together successfully, shedding light on the often unseen but crucial steps that turn a vision into reality.
Floor plans and presentations
Have your floor plan printed out. It's your roadmap, helping you and your team navigate the space. Pair this with your design presentations, so you have a clear vision of the end game at all times.
Tracking Sheet
Organize a tracking sheet with product photos, dimensions, and where each piece will live in the space. This isn't just paperwork; it’s your blueprint for the day.
Delivery Checks
A day or two before, confirm the delivery times with your team, clients and couriers and delivery personnel. Clear communication here can save you from last-minute scrambles.
Dress for action
Opt for comfort and practicality in your attire. You’ll be moving, lifting, and possibly doing some on-the-spot problem-solving. And you will definitely be on your feet all day, so dress accordingly.
The almighty Install Bag
Think of your install bag as your toolkit for success. Essential items include a
Tape measure
Painter's tape
Box cutter
Felt furniture pads
Shoe covers
level
Scissors
Post-it notes
Cleaning wipes
Tool kit
Expect (and Embrace) Some Chaos
Install day is rarely without its moments of frenzy. Embrace the chaos – it’s part of the creative process. Keep your cool, adapt as needed, and remember, at the end of the day, it’s about bringing your design vision to life.
With these tips in mind, you're set to make your install day not just successful, but enjoyable too. Happy installing!
About Me
At JFD Creative, we're all about crafting spaces that tell a story, each with its own unique identity. I'm Jessica Fischer, the heart behind the designs, and I've got a knack for mixing up furniture, lighting, art, and textures that not only add warmth but also a bit of soul to every project. My design eye comes from a life spent soaking up cultures in the Philippines, Japan, and Turkey, which means I love throwing in a splash of color, a touch of modernist charm, or a piece with a history that speaks. Whether it's working with beloved items my clients already have or starting from scratch, I draw from my colorful experiences and my formal training at the New York School of Interior Design.
